Local Government

Since 2016 local and state jurisdictions in the state of Mississippi have received over $8 million in grants funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes for lead hazard control programs.

Funding has gone to support implementation of the Lead Safe Jackson Housing Program administered by the City of Jackson and City of Hattiesburg as well as lead hazard control programming through the Mississippi State Department of Health in Yazoo City.

In addition to administration of housing repair programs that reduce lead-based paint, local government agencies can support lead poisoning prevention through a variety of policies and property maintenance enforcement practices.
